Justice Antonin Scalia

The Passing of Justice Antonin Scalia diminishes us all

Justice Antonin Scalia was a strong defender of the 2nd Amendment, but that is not all he was.  Here are some quotes that illustrate why losing Justice Scalia, as we did this weekend, diminishes us all:

About the Constitution:
“What is a moderate interpretation of the text? Halfway between what it really means and what you’d like it to mean?”

Regarding the selection of Justices:
“If we’re picking people to draw out of their own conscience and experience a ‘new’ Constitution, we should not look principally for good lawyers. We should look to people who agree with us. When we are in that mode, you realize we have rendered the Constitution useless.”

On legislating from the bench:
“It is one of the unhappy incidents of the federal system that a self-righteous Supreme Court, acting on its members’ personal view of what would make a ‘more perfect Union’ (a criterion only slightly more restrictive than a ‘more perfect world’) can impose its own favored social and economic dispositions nationwide.”

On character:
“Bear in mind that brains and learning, like muscle and physical skill, are articles of commerce. They are bought and sold. You can hire them by the year or by the hour. The only thing in the world not for sale is character.”

On faith and Christianity:
“God assumed from the beginning that the wise of the world would view Christians as fools … and he has not been disappointed. … If I have brought any message today, it is this: Have the courage to have your wisdom regarded as stupidity. Be fools for Christ. And have the courage to suffer the contempt of the sophisticated world.”

This was a great man and we are, as a nation, diminished because of his passing. You shall be missed, Justice Scalia.

  1. Your comments were so spot on. Succinct, exacting, relevant to the current Social and political ideation which now permeates this great union. I too wish that this great Justice was still alive as he depicted what real America stood for and valued the constitution as it was written and not adulterated by politically expedient thought presented by leftists judges who are attempting to advance a super ” liberal ” ideology not inherent in this Constitution. The passing of this amazing judge will have ripples throughout ths country for a century to follow as his time was way too short add he had such promise for America. Please just Look around now.! What do you see hear? Correct! !** 🙁 James Madison and our founding father’s would be shocked to see what this liberal extension of the court is attempting to do to this great Republic. Socrates stated. “. What a society values is what a Society will become”!! What do we value!? . Let us keep the values of the founding fathers intact. As a former. U. S. Marine. Viet. Nam. Era. Decorated and as a former decorated Lieutenant Commander and as a doctor and just a. *American* we need to stand firm and preserve this great. Republics’s Integrity as depicted in our Sacred Constitution. May you all be blessed and vote this election year. Be ever vigilant that other tyrannical regimes came into power by making the courts do their dirty deeds. Look at Stalin, Hitler’s. ” socialist party” sounds eariely similar to what we see today with leftist Socialism also look at ” Mussolini all as as recent as this century. Be blessed. Semper Fi. Gentlemen + ladies. With honor. Commander. Dr. Bob. Matthews. P. S: Pass this on:). Thanks! **LONG LIVE THIS GREAT REPUBLIC **!
