My dad, a Columbia County Sheriff’s Deputy at the time, had given me a little Ithaca Model 49 .22 rifle for my 8th birthday. He had purchased it used from a local shop and presented it to me one day while we were out shooting. Let’s give credit where credit is due. The Ruger Mini 14, for all the accuracy issues it had at the beginning, is a rugged, ridiculously reliable, handy little rifle. It’s quick to the shoulder, easy and fun to shoot, has very little recoil and is chambered for a fairly powerful and versatile cartridge.
